A Wednesday Soapbox Moment
My comments are not so much in response to the articles, as they are to the many comments I’ve read. Comments often tell me all I need to know. They’re an education, in and of themselves.
It’s interesting to look at the Facebook pages of those who are responding. There is much ignorance out there and it’s hard to reason with an uneducated, fearful human being.
Always remember – when you have to resort to name calling, your self-worth diminishes. You become part of the problem. For or against, you're entitled to your opinion. I value our First Amendment, now more than ever. Cheers! – paerki
Ignorance Is Bliss
I know too many poor to middleclass conservatives who lack understanding of politics, economics and social graces. Add to that – fear, racism and brainwashing and you have a clueless, insular wannabe.
We live in a time of great moral confusion and religious/spiritual corruption, and I find that disturbing. Stop cherry picking the Bible to fuel your self-righteous ways. Stop answering questions with Bible verses. You have a brain – use it! You have a heart – show empathy and compassion! Think for yourself! Believe in yourself! Yes, believe in your God, but stop manipulating him because you can’t deal with the real world – with your fears and insecurities.
We’re all in this together so let’s stop making it bad for the next guy. Let’s lift each other up instead of tearing each other down.
Choosing not to educate yourself, using your ignorance as a weapon only proves one thing – you’re an idiot and that doesn’t make you a patriot. It simply makes you stupid and pathetic, and I don’t want that for you – not at all.
I often sound like I am anti-religion, but I am not. I am just anti-stupid. Intelligence lives in all of us. Find and nurture yours before it’s too late. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing – black or white – yes or no. There is middle ground to conquer with give and take, but you can’t be greedy, narrow-minded and judgmental.
It’s not my intention to offend anyone, but at some point you have to pull your head out of the sand, and for some of you – out of your ass. (Reference: Watch These Painfully Ignorant Mississippians Explain Why They Hate Obama)
Immigration
There are no easy answers. Immigration reform is definitely a delicate subject. It often becomes the pink elephant in the room. However, I learn a lot by reading articles and following the debate. I take issue with someone living in my country that is illegal. However, the choices we make to solve the problem must not be met with careless abandonment for a group of people who are in search of a better life.
Too many of us have lost our humanity. As always, beware of the un-Christian Christian for it is you I fear the most. (Reference: Gov. O’Malley, Faith Leaders Meet On Immigration)
