Downtown Sailing Adventure
Our second casual "Senior Sailing Adventure" was last week, and it was just as much fun as our first. This time around we had more boats and were able to invite more residents.
Our hosts, the Downtown Sailing Center in Baltimore, were remarkable. They anticipated our needs, especially when it came to mobility. My goal with these outings is to invite ALL residents, but more specifically residents who would otherwise not be able to participate because of mobility challenges (those using canes, walkers, etc.), balances issues, visual disturbances (poor eyesight due to AMD – age related macular degeneration, etc.) and arthritis (osteoarthritis and rheumatoid).
This really is a team effort, and everyone who made this happen is to be applauded.
I recently read, "We want to live by each other’s happiness, not by each other’s misery." This can be achieved through compassion, creativity, learning and, more importantly, listening.
There are many more sailing trips to come as we hope to sail monthly, with our last sail of the year in October.
I am already looking forward to my next sailing adventure. To my senior friends, I can’t wait to hang with you again. You bring an infinite amount of joy to my world. – paerki
