NYC: Summer 2021
My recent weekend getaway to New York City did not go as planned. Regrettably, there were limitations, many out of my control. Of course, the ongoing pandemic did not help. Some of my favorite restaurants are now closed, and people continue to be defiant when it comes to doing the right thing. Wear a mask! Practice social distancing! These are not difficult tasks, and are a kindness to all you meet. (This pandemic has clearly exposed our arrogance and ignorance. Apathy is deadlier than COVID-19.)
Slowly, but surely New York is coming back. I have fall and winter visits planned. My fingers are crossed for better outcomes.
Regardless of the challenges, memories were made. With every trip to New York, I like to spend a significant amount of time walking the city streets. There is always a new discovery, and this visit was no different.
The Daniel Patrick Moynihan Train Hall (a huge new addition to New York Penn Station), a concert in Bryant Park, new murals, brunch outdoors on a cool day, a disco ball in a bathroom, 6 AM walk around the perimeter of Central Park, Hudson River Park, Dumbo in Brooklyn with its cobble stone streets and converted warehouse buildings… These places and activities are what I will remember most. – paerki
