Pamper Yourself
It’s important to pamper yourself, now and again. A little bit of self-indulgence never hurt anyone. We spend so much time trying to stay ahead of the game, creating methods to keep ourselves balanced and organized, positive and kind, etc., and it can be a daunting task. Much of this depends on work, family and friends, and the levels of stress involved.
If you don’t already know, allow me to tell you, it’s essential you take care of the complete you, both exterior and interior (body, mind and soul). Our well-being demands this of us. I know from personal experience, taking time for a little R & R (rest and relaxation) goes a long way. It really gives me the power I need to go the distance – to succeed, and it keeps my energy levels consistent. It also helps me to deflect the Debbie Downers that might come my way (and let me tell you, they are out there).
As we know from magazines and advertisements, women spend a great deal of time pampering themselves, and men need to get on board (and we are, to some degree). All should be doing whatever it takes, especially if we care about preserving our happiness.
Common sense has helped me realize pampering doesn’t have to be expensive or complicated, it doesn’t have to take up the entire day, and there are simple actions (regimes) you can fit into your daily routine, which will aid in you staying positive and upbeat, and it will make you more approachable, too.
How I pamper myself – Walking Meditation: Hiking local trails alone… Electronics: I power down a few times each week (2 to 3 hours, that’s a big deal for me)… Silence: I remain silent 1.5 hours when I first rise and before I go to bed (that’s even more important, and it really sets the tone for the day and how I sleep)… Spa Treatment: Every two weeks I enjoy an oatmeal bath, face mask, etc., using some herbs and spices from my kitchen (and the therapies I use work wonders for the pores, dark circles under the eyes, etc.)… Eating Healthy: That’s the best thing you can do for yourself, but it does take practice before you reach that plateau… Reading: I often read quotes and poetry because it helps me to appreciate the beauty around me, even more.
As I get older, I recognize just how easy it is to take every aspect of life for granted. I’m almost inclined to say that’s allowed, but when we begin to make sense of the world and how we see ourselves in it, we have a responsibility – not just to ourselves, but to mankind, to be smart, responsible, yielding and practical with every element of our existence because what we do impacts others, and if you need an example, look at the state of healthcare.
I say pamper yourself because in the long run it’s going to make your journey in life easier (if only a bit), much brighter, and a whole lot more enjoyable. Here’s to you, and your making time for yourself, and if you must, demand it! – paerki
