The Secret Life Of Trees
Trees are an amazing life force, speaking a language that is all their own. They shelter us from summer's heat with their welcoming shade. They dazzle us in the fall with color changes. When transitioning into winter, they continue to delight with their branches casting shadows on the ground. My favorite part of this evolutionary process is with spring. I enjoy seeing those early buds, a promise of what is to be. Within a blink of an eye, trees are bare no more, but transformed into what I call nature’s natural skyscrapers.
These gentle giants are nonstop performers, dancing for us on a windy day, showy with their colorful leaves and many shades of green that can be easily seen on a bright sunny afternoon, and when it rains, I marvel as the raindrops hit the leaves, cascading down, branch to branch, leaf to leaf, creating harmony that is always music to our ears.
We must never underestimate trees, and by no means take them for granted. They do more for us than you realize, protecting us from the sun’s damaging rays, sheltering us from evil storms and enhancing many different environments, which fuel genius. We must respect these precious gifts that nature has bestowed upon us by providing them with love, care and respect.
There is power in numbers, especially with trees. They reduce air pollution and global warming through respiration and removing particulate matter. They provide shade and conserve energy, and moderate the local climate by lowering air temperature.
My favorite things about trees: They improve property value, control noise pollution and provide food and shelter for generations of birds and wildlife. The best of all, they reduce stress and make us feel good.
I am never bored because when I find I have nothing to do, I put on my walking shoes and do a stroll around my neighborhood, where I can find some of the most extraordinary trees. They command my attention and I honor them with a keen eye, snapping photographs to remember a perfect day.
The photos in this post are of trees in my area, with most being Cherry Blossoms. The Cherry Blossoms in Washington, DC get the most attention this time of year, but I never forget those that line the streets of one my favorite places to be, my hood. This is one of the many reasons why I choose city life.
Remember this, the one thing you can always count on in life is a tree because they are never boring. With a little imagination and creativity, you’ll be entertained for as long as you like. Enjoy! – paerki
