Wondered and Wandered
Yesterday was the day to be outdoors. Winter weather never felt so good (okay, that’s a slight exaggeration, but you get my point – I hope!). It was sunny with minimal cloud cover, and the temperature reached 63 degrees, with mild winds. I thought to myself, I would be happy if it stayed like this forever, but I immediately came back to my senses. I really do appreciate the changes of the seasons, even when they’re a little off due to the effects of global warming, and yes – it’s real, people!
Make no mistake, global warming has been in the works, a gradual process we have created over time. What?! You didn’t think there would be consequences due to the man-made industrial emissions of fossil fuels? That plays a big role. The evidence for rapid climate change is compelling, with sea levels and global temperatures rising, warming oceans, shrinking ice sheets, etc.
I do think most uniformed people don’t believe in global warming because they choose to ignore the facts. It’s easier that way. Many are too greedy to change their ways. Of course, there are those who simply don’t feel affected by it, thinking natural disasters are a normal phenomena, even when we know that weather systems, likes hurricanes, have increased in force.
You’ll have to pardon my small rant, but my Tuesday afternoon hike put me in a contemplative, wondering mood. I couldn’t help thinking about the planet vs. mankind. We must become better stewards of the earth. It’s time to give a damn, and there are simple things you can do in your everyday life that will help make a difference.
I could easily say, "Go green!" However, that slogan has become cliché – a catchphrase, and I’ve seen many shrug it off as a fad. There are times when you have to spell things out. What should we do? – To Save Energy: use energy efficient light bulbs, and only turn on the lights you need. To Save Water: turn off water while brushing your teeth, and take short showers. To Save Fuel: use public transportation as often as possible. To Save Resources: take reusable cloth bags to the grocery store instead of using paper and plastic, and purchase recycled products. It’s important to remember – little things matter, so do your part. Earth is our only home. We must love and take care of it today, for tomorrow is too late.
As for my day, it was fabulous! After I wondered, I wandered through the city, visiting favorite neighborhoods, hiking local trails, and bird watching, and all the while photographing what I couldn’t get enough of – beautiful, enticing, never boring nature. She never disappoints. Not every photograph was a keeper, but I saved those that reminded me of what I would call the perfect day.
Here’s to the rest of your week, friends! Keep smiling because a beautiful day starts with a beautiful smile, and what other people need to see from you is a smile. Cheers! – paerki
