Do You Care, America?
I appreciate an early morning run, that bit of solace before the day’s interruptions – the barrage of emails, phone calls, errands, etc. This particular Wednesday morning was special, which had me running past a wall of daffodils that were just waiting to be photographed and, as always, I was ready!
I can’t believe it, the first daffodils of the season, but of what season – winter or spring? Technically it’s still winter, and daffodils don’t usually bloom until late March, early April. There are days when late afternoon feels like a cold spring day. I take it all in stride, savoring nature’s beautiful masterpieces whenever they arrive, like today. Of course it’s all a tease because as we all know, Mother Nature can be fickle, especially when humans interfere, mismanaging her earth.
I don’t need a politician manipulating me into believing global warming is not real. I don’t need a scientist telling me it is fact. I can see and feel the changes for myself, knowing that our planet is in peril because so many refuse to respect what is only borrowed.
We are passive when it comes to devastating habitats, exploiting natural resources (oil, lumber, etc.), and all out of greed. Sadly we pick and choose how we regard life – debating abortion, healthcare, not funding projects for the poor and overpopulating the planet, and all out of selfishness, disrespect and ignorance. What about life in the rivers and oceans, in the forest and elsewhere? Do you care, America? We continue to pollute streams and fields, releasing harmful chemicals in the air we breathe and the water we drink. Do you care, America?
It’s sad many are eager to play the dirty game of politics, both politician and follower waging war on minorities, especially gays and women, who are not your enemy, but your friends, coworkers, relatives, etc. Let’s not forget about war as it pertains to combat and all those little boys on Capitol Hill who are still trying to prove themselves to their mothers and the world at large that they are big, strong and moral, but in actuality are small, weak and unprincipled, only happy when they are picking on the meager to feed their righteous conceited egos (now this is a real bully). Do you care, America?
As silly and as simple as it may sound, I wish we could be more like daffodils – just there, thriving until our time is up, allowing each the right to do its own thing because like them, we all just want to be, and wouldn’t it be nice to live in a world of peace and harmony?
It’s time we leave each other alone and let nature run its course, which means honoring choice and the choice that so many Americans never made, and who just want to be. Do you care, America? – paerki
