I Love Artists
Friday, during my walk down to the Flower Mart I met this spirited artist. Her name I wish I could remember, but her beautiful aura has stayed with me. She’s one of the many visionaries who are making great strides to help improve Baltimore’s neighborhoods through art.
She encouraged me to come back after the festival and participate in the painting of this colorful ground mural (there are other artists working on it, too). Unfortunately, I was too late and when I returned she was gone, but I’ll be venturing downtown again tomorrow, and if she’s there (because there is still much work to be done), I am going to nurture the artist in me, if only for a few hours.
Of course, I couldn’t leave the area without walking around the corner to check on Jaz’s mural for the Open Walls Project in Station North. He is making great strides as well, and his masterpiece is deep, contemplative and definitely a conversation piece. I can’t wait to see the final product.
I’m in awe of artists because they help me tap into my own creativity. More importantly, they motivate communities, inspiring others to improve. I’ve always liked the quote from George Bernard Shaw... "Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable." How true! Thank you artists of the world, and even to the wannabes like me. – paerki
