Sherwood Gardens: Through The Years
The past few days have had all the required ingredients needed for a perfect spring – birds singing (although too early in the morning for me), sunshine, blue skies, breezes and gorgeous flowers. However, with the good comes the bad, with the beautiful – the ugly, and with the happy – the sad. What am I talking about, you ask? The cold weather! We’ve gone from winter to summer and back to winter in a week, but I heard there’s a reprieve on the horizon, and here I am, yet again, questioning the wild fluctuations in temperature, which have actually been forecast correctly, for a change.
It’s spring, and change is in the air. Can you feel it? Here’s to your new beginning. – paerki
I believe the climate inconsistencies are telling of what’s to come. I conceive spring to be extremely short, and summer long – and hot! I can handle heat, but the humidity is another story. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for spring’s return over the next few days, or weeks.
On a more positive note, Sherwood Gardens will bloom soon. I thought it was going to take a few more weeks, but the yellow tulips are starting to open. On Monday, there were four blossoms (only four!), but by the weekend, there will be more, and by next week, I imagine there to be hundreds.
I would wait a few more weeks before eyeing the gardens, but definitely add it to your list of places to visit soon. To see Sherwood in all its grandeur – the flowerbeds filled, and all the tulips opened, is a spectacular sight. Consider a picnic in this lovely little oasis in the city. It’s magical and a special place to create wonderful memories with friends and family.
I’ve spent the past few weeks hiking around town, enjoying the subtle changes of a new season. There is so much beauty to behold in Baltimore this time of year. I’m one of these strange people who appreciates the many shades of brown and green in winter, but when spring arrives – it’s intense, and I’m truly elated (it’s almost hypnotic).
I love spring for many reasons – the air smells cleaner, and everything feels fresher, healthier and brighter – especially me. I feel recharged and reenergized. Springtime is about renewal, fresh starts and new beginnings. It’s about putting our best foot forward. I hope we can do just that, letting go of fear, while respecting humanity just a bit more.
I want to encourage people, especially those closest to me, to understand and appreciate this great big beautiful planet of ours as our common home – that everything and everyone has value and beauty, regardless of how small or great the contribution, and that we, now more than ever, must open our eyes to see it – really see it, being thankful for the simplest of things, and sometimes that just might be a smile, because for me that goes a long way.
