Use It Or Lose It
I am sitting here cleaning out files on my computer. I am not one to save things. My motto is "you use it or lose it." It’s a simple, forward strategy that has always worked well for me because it affords my life structure and organization, which keeps me harmoniously balanced. I couldn’t imagine being weighed down by clutter and unsightly debris, even on a computer. You will never find my desktop compromised by a multitude of files, Post-Its, etc.
You can learn a lot about someone just by looking at their desktop and that of their computer. It’s so easy to say, "I’m organized," but in today’s world that doesn’t go very far. Many of us don’t need to say anything, and yet it’s easy to determine who has control over his/her life. (FYI: Always remember, body language and speaking patterns are the first to give you away. I think we all need to ask ourselves, are we presenting well in all that we do and to the best of our ability?)
It’s fair to say, there is no way to live wholly if you aren’t setting limits and following a schedule and, more importantly, constructing order out of your disorder as you move forward. A good cleansing can revitalize your spirit, reawaken your creativity, and spawn new opportunities for that which can often seem mundane. (There are times when we need to say, out with the old and in with the new – and mean it, too! Think about that when reflecting on your happiness, more importantly your control, and the lack of, but I digress.)
My computer cleaning was the cleansing I was looking for today because it opened the door to my creativity, which is never really shut, but just needed a good push.
I take hundreds of photos on any given week all for mere pleasure. I am lucky if I find 10 worthy of some form of accolade. I keep them all because they tell the story of my life. They reveal my hobbies and interests, sorrows and joy, etc., but more importantly they tell all how I see the world – not through rose-colored glasses, but genuine perspective. I know, and you need to know too that there is beauty in everyone and everything if we just open our eyes to see it. Some of us need to take an actual picture (a mental one won’t do) to remind us of this everyday so we won’t be bitter, hateful, mean spirited and clueless to friend and foe.
I know so many people who snap photograph after photograph, but do absolutely nothing with them. Yes, we put them in photo albums, Facebook, Twitter, etc, but is that good enough? I incorporate many on my blogs, and still that’s not sufficient.
So I’ve decided to utilize my photographs in collage, creating stationary (note cards, etc.) that I can send to friends and others, which makes the correspondence a bit more special, personable and meaningful (I hope the receiver agrees). I will have others professionally framed adorning the walls in my home because I am proud of my achievements and I want to be reminded of my life each and everyday. Think about telling your own story with photographs, sharing your journey with the world. Enjoy! – paerki
