Tuesday’s Soapbox Moment
I feel like being a little mouthy and sassy today. My opinions run the gamut. I always appreciate feedback, encouraging all to participate. I am thoughtful – respectful of all viewpoints. (Well, the majority of the time.)
I appreciate my First Amendment Rights, hoping that many of you don’t take my point of view too personally.
As I always like to say, we all have a point of view to express, and let’s share it with the understanding of agreeing to disagree. I might not consent to your politics or religious views, but that will never stop us from being friends, coworkers or neighbors. Never allow one single topic to define your human spirit, but be open to all possibilities. Cheers! – paerki (Reference: The Power In 'Choosing To Be Gay')
The Debate Is Over
What a fascinating article, and the comments – irresistible. I had to read them all! The pros and cons are equally irritating, to say the least. Why are we debating sexuality/orientation? Why does it matter? Why would anyone choose to be gay, especially in a world of Neanderthals? Why are so many straight people, especially straight men, interested in gay people’s business? Dear bigot, why do you feel so threatened by me – by gay people? That’s just not healthy. That’s the real problem. Let’s talk about your fear – your stupidity. I seriously want to help you.
My intentions are not to offend anyone, but you can take your 'tolerance' and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine. The only thing to be tolerated is your disregard for the truth and that’s wearing thin, and fast. Your antiquated thinking is putting lives at risk, especially young people’s lives.
I found this quote, or perhaps it found me, and it reminded me of just how lucky I am, that I’ve always lived life on my own terms, never repressing who I was – a gay man.
This quote goes beyond gay, and speaks to everyone. It says, "JUST BE YOU because that’s good enough!" Love is love, and it’s so important. We all crave and need it, if we are to make it through this life.
Those you want to love you, but can only do so conditionally, are just not worth being around. Walk away from that which doesn’t grow your spirit. I did, many times, and I am a better man – always true to myself.
Of course, I have a few favorite comments to this article…
"It's always struck me that one's sexual orientation is most similar to the way that most humans are predisposed to be right-handed or left-handed. Most people have a dominant hand, but a lot of people can use both nearly the same, and even more people do some things with their right hand, and some with their left hand.
Either way, who cares? Whether it's completely biological or not, it doesn't make sense to care who anyone else gets naked with, or has intimate relationships with. I generally try to avoid any arguments about 'but they're born that way' and instead rely on, 'why do you possibly give a good shit?'."
"Nature or nurture, either way it's none of my damn business. It's hard enough getting through my own life without deciding if you're doing what you ought to be doing with yours."
"Enough! If you are not gay, you have no say! Butt out! It has nothing to do with you."
"It's incredibly tiresome that in this day and age people are still discussing this instead of accepting that it takes all sorts people to make the world go around."
"The focus of discussion should only be about whether or not you are a person who shows respect to others."
