TMO Day
What a gorgeous day! Wednesday was sensational. The weather couldn’t have been better – blue sky, big fluffy white clouds, gentle breezes and the best of all, cooler temperatures. Everything about yesterday tells me fall is just around corner.
However, we still might have the occasional hot day, and maybe even exceed 100 degrees, but winter came early and so did spring (although we did have that freakish snowstorm), and so I expect the same from fall, and it better deliver.
I really enjoyed my afternoon, finding a cozy bench on the Johns Hopkins University - Homewood Campus to sit and read (Kinship Of All Life, by J. Allen Boone). It was the kind of peacefulness I was craving. My original goal was to attend the A Joyful Noise concert at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, but deep down inside I was searching for something else – solitude.
There are so many who are addicted to rushing, achieving and going nonstop, and never taking a break. All should set time aside (preferably each week) for a bit of solitude because it’s good for your overall health and wellness.
I often hear friends, and one in particular say, I take time to be alone, but are you really alone and with your thoughts, using that time wisely to focus on you? I always incorporate some form of meditation too, which I do out of doors. I thrive when I commune with nature. I’m always inspired.
As I was walking through the campus on my way home, I discovered two butterfly gardens, and was pleasantly surprised to finally see a Monarch. They arrived early last year, and this year – nothing, but that changed yesterday, but I don’t expect to see anymore. I’m happy with just the one, and it made me smile from ear to ear.
Take a 'me' day – better yet, a TMO Day (take me outside). Spend that time with you and you only, walking by a stream, on the beach or take a drive into the country. Also, be more with less. In other words, leave the electronics at home and bring a book or just your thoughts while pondering the afternoon away. No matter what, find your joy. – paerki
