Think Joy
What can I say, the simple things bring me joy – a hike on a trail… photographing the world around me… talking to a friend on a street corner (that one is for you, Mary)… listening to a concert or watching a movie outdoors with my neighbors... eating lunch in the park underneath a tall oak… playing Scrabble in a garden (preferably Sherwood Gardens)… sitting on a couch with a beloved friend, drinking a glass of wine and talking about anything and everything because nothing is off limits (well, most of the time)… a drive into the country, and the list goes on and on.
What brings you joy? Whatever it is, do it! The weekend has arrived, and I demand all thrive, finding joy every step of the way, and whenever possible, share your joy because it will mean so much more if you’re sharing it with others.
I’m almost always full of joy, but I’m only human and have my moments, rarely, where I am in need of someone to give me a little push, and that’s one thing I can always count on in this world – sometimes with a stranger, always with a treasured friend and, on those rare occasions, a special someone who enters my life bringing with them joy to share.
On Wednesday I hiked 12 miles through the city, and when I got to Charles Village, I heard someone in the distance say… Uncle Paul! Uncle Paul! I looked up and was shocked, surprised and elated to see my beautiful niece, Sarah. Hugs were shared, and laughter emanated from our souls. She was memorized by how much I looked like my mother, and I was captivated by her gorgeous smile.
My joy level was pretty good that afternoon, but after seeing Sarah – it was off the charts. Her joy was intensely visible, and there was no denying that gift she was so desperate to share. She’s a hugger and a smiler, and that warmed my heart. I captured a memory, a very special one, and if I’m ever without joy or in search of a smile, I’m going to think of the chance meeting with Sarah because I know it will see me through.
