Artscape
Another Artscape for the history books, and I’m happy I visited all three days. The weather at times was oppressive, but by late Saturday evening that all changed, thanks to a much needed rain shower. Sunday was hot, but there were intermittent cool breezes, and one could always find relief in the shade. I did! It was a fun-filled weekend.
I wasn’t feeling this year’s theme – No Passport Required. It felt a little flat, not really living up to the hype. The Artscape mobile app presented challenges too. It wasn’t worth accessing, offering limited information. Major improvements are needed.
The representation of artists was noticeably different this time around – even compared to the past two years. Outstanding! I have never witnessed a more engaging group, speaking to a handful of artists. (It’s always a pleasure chatting with Steve Baker. I respect your contribution to the local art scene, and it’s always a joy to see your masterpieces scattered about the city’s neighborhoods.)
Other highlights, and what I’ll remember most – Performing Arts: There was a little something for everyone. (I have eclectic tastes, loving it all.)… Visual Arts: Sondheim Prize (a closer review of the art, which was nothing short of exceptional), and the Maryland Film Festival’s short films. My three favorites: Dotty (a tear jerker), Slomo (offering a strong/positive message that everyone must hear) and Miracle Boy (I recommend this one for the bullies of the world).
There were awesome murals on display too, with positive messages that will definitely stay with me. It pays to yield to signage, and that includes art too.
There is not much more I need to say because my photos tell the real story, one of happiness and joy. It really was a lovely weekend, especially the impromptu dinner at Tapas Teatro. Thank you, friend!
There is no doubt about it, once more Artscape delivered, and always in a very big way. What a major feat. To all responsible, especially to the Baltimore Office of Promotions & The Arts and the many volunteers… Here’s to you, and a job well done. Be proud. Thank you!
Find your joy in a new week, my friends – remembering Monday is a new beginning, and anything is possible. Dare to be creative. Never underestimate your ability to thrive. Cheers! – paerki
