An Ode To Spring
The countdown to summer begins. Friday marks the big day. I’m going to savor these last moments of spring while they last. There’s no denying, it was golden this time around, and long lasting too, for a change. Typically we move from winter into summer, thanks to global warming, but spring held on and I found myself more than content. I was happy, and I still am.
There are signs a new season is being ushered in, and quickly. With intermittent humid days, intense thunderstorms, tornadoes, etc., summer is calling, but it won’t be all bad. I’m looking forward to some serious beach time, intense hiking, barbecues, picnics, outdoor concerts, etc. I can’t say it’s my favorite period, but I do make the most of it, because there is joy to be found, even in the season of the sun.
Before it all ends, I’m looking back, thus my ode to spring. It began strangely enough with a winter storm – how bizarre was that?! Soon after the daffodils made their appearance, and we had a lot of rain too, but how beautiful were the flowers? Quite! I really enjoyed the constant color. There was always something to take my breath away, especially when I visited Sherwood Gardens in Guilford and the lakes in Homeland, and when I took my morning and evening walks through a few of my favorite Baltimore neighborhoods – Bolton Hill, Charles Village, Reservoir Hill, Roland Park and Tuscany-Canterbury, and the trails (let me not forget the trails) – Herring Run, Jones Falls and the Stony Run.
My spring was filled with drives into the country, joyful holidays and fun celebrations, bird watching (I always look forward to the herons returning), festivals, walking tours, trips to the local museums, concerts, and farmer’s markets, and points of reflection too – sharing words of kindness, purpose and intent with those closest to my heart.
It was a season for giving and offering advice and exploring shared wisdom, and there were soapbox moments too because as everyone knows, I have a point of view and like to express it, anyway I can (here’s to Facebook and Twitter). A few friendships faded away, but many flourished, even under the most unfortunate circumstances – time and distance. There was death, and in my own way, I celebrated life. There was what we all need more of – love, and it was both lost and found.
However, the best parts of this extraordinary season was the memories made and shared, and this opportunity to look back with great fondness in what can only be described as joyful. I preach often, three things to all I meet – find your joy, thrive and walk away from that which doesn’t grow your spirit. I am committed to the latter even more, from now until the end of time, for it’s with this particular spring, my consciousness (inner voice) sprung.
