Traditions
Just like our tried and true friendship, The Terrace Garden That Could has grown, evolving into something even more special. We are two years into what can only be described as a labor of love, and now, the tradition has been set. With each passing year, sometime during the second week of May, we are promised a joyful day of gardening, followed by warm months filled with spirited outdoor gatherings – always between the two of us, but for all who are invited.
This space is truly golden for many reasons. Its location is near a hiking trail and stream, and it allows for meeting new people, but most of all, it calms the spirit and soothes the soul after a day of hard work, or when one is filled with challenge and in need of an escape. This is definitely the place to be.
I am appreciative of Mother Earth’s contributions, happy for the lushness that surrounds this quaint oasis in the city – the tall trees and leafy shrubs, and for the birds that come to visit – finches, woodpeckers, mockingbirds, sparrows and robins, and there are always hummingbirds later in the season, too.
Two days of busy work in Hannah’s Terrace Garden, and I was plenty tired, but oh so happy, particularly ecstatic about the results. This year we incorporated morning glory vines, which will create a cozier feeling, and we added ironwork. The most beautiful piece is a hoe wheel that looks like a sun (it might just be my favorite). And, we opted for all terracotta pots, a suggestion I was happy for – thank you, Hannah!
Our time in the garden is off to a wonderful start. Neighbors have stopped by, thanking us for our contribution to the community, and the happy hours – always happy!
I love traditions, and I am always satisfied when I can include my own, especially with friends. Traditions help us connect (or reconnect), creating a much needed sense of belonging.
