Halloween (2014)
October began with a leisurely drive into the country (historic Jerusalem Mill Village) to enjoy fall foliage and ended, as it always does, with me celebrating Halloween with friends. Everyone had a wonderful time! (To those who commemorate El Dia de los Muertos, for others, All Saints Day – Enjoy!)
Halloween is now just a ghost of a memory. It arrived, just as it has in the past, with anticipation, and leaves ever so quickly, always with me wanting more. I can’t ever get enough of my favorite holiday because it’s about each of us connecting with our inner child, while wallowing in an overabundance of fun affording everyone the opportunity of a trick or treat (and if you are lucky, both).
Here’s to November. There is much going on – opera, symphony, plays, theater and lectures. I have a full calendar, and I am excited!
The general election takes place, too. I have already cast my ballot during early voting, and I am confident in my choices. Voting is a civic duty, but even more so a privilege. By voting we express our opinions, participate in our society and help to determine our future. Many have sacrificed their freedom and their life for the right to vote. Be responsible, and vote with knowledge because that’s your power.
Single-issue voting is wrong in these multi-issue times. Consider the economy, and the job market before making a decision. Social issues are important, but too many have selfish reasons, which doesn’t always advance the nation as a whole. I maintain that extremists are bleeding America, both Republicans and Democrats.
Don’t forget to turn the clock back to appreciate an extra hour of sleep. Here's to early dawns of light and evenings of early creepy darkness.
