Happy Halloween!
Halloween! The day has finally arrived! Have you chosen your costume?! Made your plans?! In this case, there is nothing like planning last minute. This will be your test of endurance. What’s great about today is anything goes (and I’m not just talking about the costume). Wearing a little orange and black, carving a pumpkin, hanging decorations on the front door – it’s all good. Simply appreciating the efforts of others can be your contribution, which will fortify a positive experience for all. (Today is the perfect day for purchasing costumes because merchandise will be marked down – picked over, but a bargain.)
I will spend a little quality time sipping champagne with a friend, talking about the many Halloweens from yesteryear, which will include the funny, crazy and often-outrageous costume changes. I will never forget my first costume (Casper, the friendly ghost), which was purchased at Woolworth’s (five-and-dime store). I was five years old and loved that costume so very much I didn’t want to take it off. I cried when my mother tried to remove it, but being the doting and responsible mother she was, she allowed me to keep it on. Once I fell asleep, she removed it. I woke up and never thought twice about it (children are so predictable).
As years passed, my costumes became more creative, lavish and, at times, a bit too expensive. There were a few times when I rented one. My costumes had to fall in one of three categories: low maintenance, grand and ostentatious. I would opt for low maintenance on occasion because it allowed me to participate in events with ease. Other costumes became too cumbersome and stifled my ability to have big fun and move about freely. When all is said and done, just looking festive can be enough to seal the deal and keep the momentum going, no matter where you are.
I can also remember a few awesome parties too, which I either hosted, co-hosted or attended. There have been a few parades along the way that were truly exceptional, too.
No matter what you do today, have fun, keeping it light and energized because the goal should be to make people smile and laugh, which will keep the good times rolling along. Celebrate big! Today, you can be anyone and anything. Don’t forget to take pictures and video so that you can relive the experience again and again for years to come. Be safe and enjoy! Happy Halloween! – paerki
