Happy Spring!
I enjoy walking in the rain, and that’s just what I did yesterday, meandering through the city (side streets, alleyways, etc.) before meeting friends for cocktails and dinner in one of my favorite Baltimore neighborhoods – Station North. There was a detour too, visiting Mount Royal to hang with a special friend (it’s always a pleasure, Jeannie).
As I walked, I was looking for those optical illusions, colorful prisms one might see during or after the rain showers recede. I didn’t see any this time around, but I’m hopeful for a few gleaming rainbows during those April showers to come.
This beautiful Thursday morning I hiked the Stony Run Trail in search of traces of spring, and behold I found many. Brown is being replaced by green – with grass in abundance, forsythia bushes are blooming, various trees budding, and let me not forget what I most look forward too – daffodils, crocuses and irises. They are plentiful on lawns, paths and in flowerboxes.
I spent most of my time walking not on the trail, but in the stream, watching and listening to the beautiful water cascade over the rocks. It was music to my ears. On occasion I would hear birds singing, and I would drift away if only for a moment and look up into the sky, but I kept coming back to the water’s passionate rhythm. It was soothing and relaxing to my spirit.
I’m thankful we had a wet winter because it offers us the promise of a beautiful spring, and I’m guessing this year’s should be stunning. Here’s hoping!
It’s official! Springtime has arrived. Enjoy this magnificent season, my beautiful friends. – paerki
