A Hike In The Snow
I guess you could say I was feeling a little ambitious yesterday. I’ve been on the go for the past week, and spent my Tuesday outside playing in the snow and hiking trails. By Wednesday, I was ready for more because, as most of my friends know, I love snow.
I didn’t anticipate how cold it was, but much of that had to do with the wind chill. Let’s just say Jack Frost can be unkind. I spent a good part of my afternoon hiking, and now I can officially say I’ve worn out my legs. Ice-skating, hikes, etc., I think I’m done! (I say/write this now, but come tomorrow I’ll be ready and willing to do it all again.)
Midway through my hike, I found my port-in-the-storm, the Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory & Botanic Gardens. While sitting amongst the beautiful gardens, I was able to warm up. The orchid room was my real pleasure (for reasons I shall not share here, but past memories were intensely flooding my head making this part of the adventure bittersweet, and still I ponder the what if’s, but I digress).
A glowing thank you to the Conservatory staff. As always, all of you are special to me, and I appreciate those moments when I get to chat with you individually and as a team. The smiles and laughter are what really kept me warm on this cold winter’s day. Happy New Year, to all!
Shortly after, I was back on the Jones Falls Trail enjoying the snowy landscapes, birds in flight and the bare trees, while appreciating the silhouettes against the snow – beautiful!
I’m surprised by the amount of snow we received in the city. It didn’t look/feel like much on Tuesday, but Wednesday was telling. My legs got a healthy workout!
My journey was ending, but not before indulging in a gluten-free pear scone at Artifact. I forgot to mention, earlier I had lunch at Grano (now that was a real treat, gluten-free pasta with pomodoro sauce – Yummy!).
It was a 'me, myself and I' kind of day. I was hoping for a different outcome because I really wanted one or more of my friends to join me. Unfortunately, there were limitations that would not have fit into my plans, thus my choice to go it alone.
I hope everyone is finding his/her joy. You’ll find that the simple things in life give the most pleasure. Pleasure has many faces and can easily translate into the perfect day. My Wednesday was all that and more, spending quality time alone, while nurturing my interests.
My recommendation, make time for yourself. I mean serious alone time. It will serve you well. Remember, time is a gift you give to yourself. Spend it wisely and feel refreshed and mentally re-set. It’s definitely going to improve your outlook, self-esteem and confidence. Cheers! – paerki (Additional Photos: Winter Meditation)
