Seize The Moment
Another beautiful fall day, and I took advantage of that which was meant to be explored. My mind, body and soul were craving fresh air, sunny skies and a journey on foot that would take me to the Jones Falls Trail. I haven’t been there in a while, but glad I ventured outdoors.
My walks always begin and end with joyful meditation, and this one was no different. With each step there was something to engage my spirit (nature’s like that). Those kaleidoscopic leaves, especially the gold and yellow, really commanded my attention. I love stepping on crunchy leaves, for they remind me of my youth, happy times of yesteryear that are now just a memory, but no less comforting.
I noticed an abundance of carved pumpkins that still adorned the steps and landings of homes and businesses. They were small reminders of a Happy Halloween and the promise of what’s to come, Thanksgiving.
Everywhere I looked there was a splash of color here and there, thanks to fall’s simple flowers (ornamental cabbage, goldenrod, culver’s root and many others). However, there is no denying that mums rule.
I took a detour, as I stepped in the Corradetti Glassblowing Studio. What can I say, awesome and a real treat. It would have been nice to participate and be hands-on, but just witnessing the technique, instruction and the enjoyment others were having was good enough for me. (Taking a class is definitely in my future!)
Well, I finally made it to the trail, and it never disappoints. Tall trees with falling leaves (some already bare), vibrant colors to excite the imagination, and the landscapes in general would make anyone’s heart melt! There was jubilation and genuine emotion for one of Mother Nature’s greatest feats: fall.
I hiked, enjoying the sights, sounds, smells and textures all around me. I was constantly fascinated by fungus and lichen. I saw a family of deer foraging for food. The male was quite stunning with his antlers. It’s sad to think people hunt these magnificent creatures, but then again population control and the food chain give reason. Still, you will never find me shooting anything.
I truly thrived on this perfect day. I hope you made it outdoors, friends. I appreciated my 'me' time – meditating, reflecting, processing and planning. Nature is healing.
Like all good things, they must come to an end, that’s why we must seize the moment (most would say day). I don’t need a day, just an occasional small precious piece of time, and I always make the most of it too. Cheers! – paerki
