Wake Up!
These stories are sad – people young and old going without food, healthcare, etc. However, I have my moments when it's hard for me to feel such sadness, taking pity on those in need because they didn’t think about the future. I don’t have a lot of patience for a poor planner. I am referencing what goes on in the United States. (World population: Seven billion and counting. Seven billion! Before you make a baby make sure you have adequate resources.)
I know too many families where the husband works, and the wife stays at home taking care of their children, which includes homechooling. (The latter I shall never understand. I have met very few parents with proper insight – emotional and mental abilility to educate their children. Many of these adults could benefit from remedial courses. Instead of running from a broken system, why not help to fix it? Stop using your God as a scapegoat.)
Some of the fathers have lost their jobs and now they are looking, scrambling for any money they can get. One person working in a household of six doesn’t make sense to me. Why do people need so many children, especially in today’s world?
I also know people who would rather have a phone, computer, cable, large screen television, Internet, car, etc., instead of appreciating the basic necessities of life. All one really needs is shelter, food, clothing, friends, and Mother Nature. A basic education is mandatory too – reading, writing and arithmetic. We should also be teaching – reduce, reuse and recycle. Let’s teach key survival skills – balancing a checkbook/money, farming, etc.
Our priorities are compromised – severely! The entitlement factor in this country is unreal. It’s time we stop living beyond our means. We are surrounded by images and videos of people living extra large lifestyles that are simply unobtainable for most. Parents have a habit of setting their children up for failure later in life. Dream big, but also be practical.
It’s not my intention to be a Debbie Downer, and I firmly believe there are extenuating circumstances. We shouldn’t be heartless. If you have it to donate – Do it! Whatever it is – love, compassion, money, food, etc., give, and don’t ask questions. Help your neighbor, friend, coworker, etc.
I do believe we should be helping each other. Sadly, these days we only know how to point the finger. That’s what our politicians do. I’m sort of doing that in this post, but I believe in drawing a line. In other words, reorganize. You can’t just shutdown the current system that’s in place without having a back up plan.
What becomes clearer by the day is no one wins when others are suffering – here and abroad. Extremism, fear and ignorance will consume us all. So many of us have poor communication skills, living off of sound bites and innuendo. Wake up before it’s too late. – paerki
(My comment is a response to reader’s comments. Many were hateful and atrocious. To those outside the United States, living in dire circumstances – I care! Reference: Close your eyes and imagine your favorite meal. Then open your eyes to this.)
