Summer Is Coming To An End
It’s hard to believe summer is almost over. There are so many signs to mark the occasion. Over the past couple of days I’ve had the opportunity to enjoy these wonderful preindications of an emerging new season that will be here before you know it.
I’ve seen students (elementary, high school and college) with book bags and sports gear in tow, being dropped off or picked up by their parents. Some are riding the bus with friends talking nonstop and laughing. It’s at these times I pause and allow myself to become a bit nostalgic, reminiscing about yesteryear, always wondering how I made it this far in life. It all passes by so quickly, as these students will soon understand, especially as they advance in age, gain wisdom and learn perspective. Let’s hope they make the right choices and land with their feet firmly on the ground.
Early this evening I took a walk, and the signs of a quickly changing season danced before my eyes. I witnessed leaves falling to the ground, a bit early I may add. There are some trees that have already begun to change color. (Climate Change? Maybe. What do you think?)
I took a walk through Sherwood Gardens in Guilford. The last of the summer flowers are absolutely magnificent. There were students lying on the tall and extremely vibrant green grass, next to flowerbeds, reading and studying.
There were squirrels scurrying, looking for acorns to store for their winter meals. I also enjoyed watching them play, chasing each other quicker than my eyes could follow. (I guess even a squirrel needs to be entertained on occasion.)
I marveled at the birds and the bees, the flowers and the trees. The bees were buzzing about, going from flower to flower, feeding on their sweet offering of nectar. The birds were flying in the sky, often appearing to dance against the backdrop of the clouds. I could lie on the ground, stare up at the sky and be happy for hours. (The shapes of the clouds can be extremely hypnotic and at times look like an unsolved puzzle, a mystery of sorts.)
Tuesday was a good day and the evening – even better, spending it with one of my favorite friends. Thank you for joining us, Toni! I love your spirit and intuitiveness. I’m adding Gertrude’s to my calendar. Happy Wednesday, everyone. Thrive! – paerki
