Art With A Message
I encourage everyone to stop by the Evergreen Museum & Library to enjoy an outdoor presentation of Loring Cornish’s work. This particular exhibition, entitled In Each Other’s Shoes (May 14 – September 29, 2013), commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the historic March on Washington. The sculptural panels visually narrate the struggle for civil rights in America, and the desire for acceptance, understanding and tolerance. Each piece was created using found materials.
I was fortunate to meet the artist a few years ago at his gallery along Antique Row on Howard Street. I found him engaging and down-to-earth, and his art – full of life and color. His mosaics are captivating, outstanding, and the overall collection – a gift for my soul.
We need to be kinder to each other if we are to make it through and weather the journey that is our life. On occasion I like to talk about purpose, and it usually begins with my own, as I’m sure it does with you too, but we need to concentrate on those in front of us incorporating their mission into ours, seeking commonality and thus visualizing the endless possibilities for unification. We need to focus on the positive and not continuously drift towards the negative. We need to zoom in on the humanity and love that’s in all of us, and for those who can’t see it, we need to champion their cause because we all have something to offer, and the sooner we understand this the better off we’ll all be.
Here’s to a new week, friends! I’m wishing all good health, and happiness. No matter what ails or challenges you, attempt mind over matter. Thrive! – paerki
