A Reprieve (From The Heat)
After days of intense heat, we get a reprieve! I can handle the heat (the majority of the time), but I finally had to get out of the kitchen. You know it’s bad when it gets the best of me. Wednesday’s cool temperature’s demanded I head outdoors to hike on the local trails, and that’s just what I did.
A hike on the Stony Run, appreciating my morning meditation… A walk on the Jones Falls – observing deer, Yellow-Crowned Night herons (witnessing four in flight), and seeing Eastern Tiger Swallowtails on the milkweed (what a beautiful sight to behold)… A stroll by the Maryland Zoo, overhearing unfortunate conversation that must change if we want children to be strong, brave, and filled with empathy… Surveying a friend's fig trees, excited to be receiving my share of figs (yum), and finally a gluten-free pear scone from Artifact (a pre-birthday celebration – thank you friend).
It was a good day. I hope all made it over the hump. It’s just two more days until the weekend. Make plans, spending time outdoors. It’s the best place to be.
Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push. A smile, a word of optimism and hope – a “you can do it” when things are tough. Wear your best smile – today, and every day. Here’s to your Thursday. Shine! – paerki
