A Memorable Weekend
It was a long weekend, taking advantage of most things local, staying close to home to play in my own backyard. I live in a wonderful neighborhood, and there is much to see and do.
This weekend I walked the grounds of Evergreen, enjoying a temporary exhibit entitled, Landscape As Laboratory… Visited the spectacular gardens at Cylburn Arboretum, which is teeming with butterflies… I made a stop at the Farmers’ Market in Waverly and had the best gluten-free pastry… Hiked the Stony Run and Jones Falls Trails – twice, and I made a stop at the Howard Peters Rawlings Conservatory & Botanic Gardens. I visit this space often, sitting amongst the flowers to read or listen to opera on my iPod.
What I like most – finding something new in the familiar, and I always do at the conservatory. (Michael, thank you! You’re the consummate host, and I appreciate your love affair with horticulture. Most of all, I’m happy you share this joy with me during my visits, and by the way, the orchid was a spectacular fine!)

I did take a brief detour Saturday afternoon with a friend, heading out to the country for a leisurely ride. We visited familiar haunts, one of our favorites – Gunpowder Falls State Park, and there were even a few surprises too, and the best of all, finding a field of sunflowers near Oregon Ridge Park.
With all that I did, I still made time for a few games of Scrabble, playtime in the kitchen and cocktails... I almost forgot about the laughter. It was there in abundance. Thank you, friends!
It was a joyful weekend. Unfortunately, there was a brief interruption to my pleasure, but it didn’t take me long to nip it in the bud. On occasion, you’ll find someone who might try to steal your thunder, and when that happens, you’ve got to walk away. I’m just sorry I didn’t do it sooner. (I still love you, my dear friend, and look forward to many more adventures with you, but know this – joy must never come at a cost to the human spirit.)
Your passion is my passion, Paul – thus my appreciating your ear. The music you share with me is a true gift, one I hold so close to my heart.
Another weekend has faded away, but I’m all about making the most of them. My goal is to always find my joy, and not just on the weekend, but everyday – in everyone, in everything.
We must – every day, as much as we can, embrace the only moment that we ever really live, that we can assert our control – and that moment is NOW! When it's gone we'll never get it back. What’s important in your life? Spend your time and energy, and get there because that is where your happiness lies.
Don’t allow anyone to ever rob you of your happiness and joy. We all deserve this much from life. Here’s to a new week. Let’s make it count. Cheers! – paerki
