Mrs. Kelly – I Enjoy Working With You
I'm on assignment (code for - I got a job!) this week and possibly for the next few months, helping a friend with his business. I'm doing the mundane office activities, and a little bookkeeping (thanks to QuickBooks).
This detour into the temporary (because I'm looking for permanent), is a pleasant re-introduction into the land of the employed. There's nothing like an organized work week, making decisions on what to wear and eat, getting up early to get a daily dose of exercise in and finally, my favorite, traveling to and from the job. It's during this time I get to peoplewatch, an activity that is innocent enough.
It's the perfect participative learning experience, which aids in understanding communication in a broader perspective, and it also lends itself to discerning the ever-evolving human condition. Sadly, because of challenging economic times, you can sense uneasiness in many. There are often weary spirits adrift, caused because most of us lack that sense of security afforded to our parents' generation. Let's hope you don't see yourself in the mix, but if you do, know that you aren't alone, and that understanding and patience are your keys to unlocking doors to a more productive future.
My workweek has been pretty good thus far, but why wouldn’t it be?! Besides a diverse work history, I always bring to the table an upbeat disposition, laughter, a can-do spirit and a willingness to communicate to solve any challenge that may arise.
What has made this experience brighter than it already has been is Mrs. Kelly. She’s not an employee per se. She ensures the office staff stays stressfree (well, tries to anyway), keeping everyone happy, polite and positive. You can’t help but fall in love with her, touching and rubbing her on occasion. Oh, my! That sounds like sexual harassment, and it certainly would be if I were talking about a human, but I’m not. Mrs. Kelly is a cat, everyone's furry little friend, who lives on the premises.
She had a bit of a rough ride in her earlier days (challenged by the stability of her living condition), but that would change over time, and she would end up just where she was meant to be, bringing daily joy to a special office. Thank you, Mrs. Kelly. I’m definitely going to enjoy working with you. - paerki
