I Am Ready For Spring
Margaret’s Garden – Hellebore (March through May): I stumbled on this beautiful private garden a few years ago, making a pact with myself to return year after year. I consider this colorful oasis in the city a barometer of sorts. It tells me spring has arrived.
Thank you, Margaret, for so much beauty. Your creative endeavors are a window into your world, revealing the kindness that’s in your heart and the wisdom stored deep within your soul. Your labor of love is a work of art and feeds the world, enriching the lives of many. I know it feeds at least one weary soul – mine! (Reference: Margaret)
Herons – Jones Falls Trail (Mating season – March through May): Year after year, the herons return to the trees near the Stieff Silver building, underneath the bridge that leads into Druid Hill Park, which is also part of the Jones Falls Trail.
Herons are beautiful birds, but they are indeed wild. Don’t think they are always polite. No, these birds are out to survive and thrive. They are known for building fresh nests or refurbishing old ones in treetops near feeding areas, and far from human disturbances. The males will sometimes bow their heads and then steal sticks from another bird's nests just to try and impress a female. This is all a part of their mating rituals.
For those who live in the area, put the herons on your list, and if you have children I encourage you to bring them along because they will enjoy this adventure. Print out "heron facts" online to make the experience educational, and don’t forget to bring binoculars and a camera. (Reference: Herons)
JHU Spring Fair (Friday through Sunday, April 15-17, 2016): Like many in my neighborhood, I am excited when the spring fair comes. It’s a telltale sign that spring has officially arrived. Enjoy a fun weekend of vendors, food, concerts and more. (Reference: Spring Fair)
Charles Village Garden Walk (Last weekend of May). I look forward to this annual event year after year and mark my calendar as soon as I know the date. May 1st begins my countdown, and when the actual day arrives I am full of excitement and promise of what awaits.
Charles Village is a multicultural neighborhood with great energy. The people are like no other because they wear their pride of community for all to see. I’m a former resident, and now I live in a sister neighborhood not too far away. However, a small piece of my heart remains loyal to this Baltimore treasure. (Reference: Garden Walk)
