Off And Running
Where did the time go? It flies by more quickly than I would like, especially as we get older (as I am led to believe by my friends of advanced years), thus justification for making each moment count.
Each day really is a gift, and we must always remember this by showing our gratitude, perhaps with a prayer or a good deed, but always with a smile toward friend and foe. I mention foe because all civil discourse feeds into our karma. If we can learn to let go of the hurt from others, we place ourselves in a better position to further our individual character, while improving society. (Yes, it’s easier said than done. Dialogue is not always necessary unless you have it in your heart to truly forgive and move on.)
For the most part, my year was full of great joy. There were concerts, festivals, plays, operas, parties, lectures and, always my favorite activity, walking the place I call home, Baltimore, with a generous amount of hikes on local trails.
I like to begin each day with a walk of meditation on the Stony Run Trail. This one simple action improves the odds of me having an even better day, and if I don’t – well, I sometimes take a late evening walk too. (I’m here to tell you don’t spend your life in a funk, clinging to fear or regret for too long because it will stifle your growth and create stress, which is more than hazardous to your health.)
As I say goodbye to 2013, I enthusiastically welcome 2014, excited by what’s to come because anything is possible if you believe. One must be hopeful, and I am never ever without hope. It’s 2014! Can you believe it?! I’m ready for the adventure, and I hope you are too, dear friends!
I’m wishing all the happiest of New Years. It’s time to choose quality over quantity. Make this year your best ever by making better choices that are going to benefit your future. Make this a new day for which you will give your all, and demand nothing but the best. Make a pact with yourself to be practical, only purchasing what you need and saving for a rainy day. There is nothing wrong with being frugal. It’s time to choose confidence over sassy and sarcasm. Let’s commit to loving more, never forgetting that to love more means to love thy self first.
When we nurture our mind, body, soul and spirit only then can we go out into the world standing taller than ever before. It’s time to show your pride, but never lose sight of humility. Spread the word that today is a new day for you. Be stronger! Learn wisdom! And be kind to others! Love is no longer saving the day, but honesty will. In honesty you will find love. I want health, wealth and happiness for all.
Let’s celebrate those enduring friendships, sharing a drink or two while reminiscing of memories from long ago. My dear friends, I will forever remember the good times. I look forward to meeting you again in 2014. To those old friends I no longer see, I will never forget you for you taught me so much. I celebrate you in thought because I keep you close to my heart. Happy New Year! – paerki
